The Importance of Self Care in the Age of Social Media

I’ve made a conscious decision to slow down my social media activity and spend more time on self-reflection, meditation and self-care. And when you choose to rise higher you may notice relationships and people around you misinterpreting your decision to unplug. Regardless, making the conscious decision to reduce social media time and put more energy into self-care is definitely a good thing for times we are now in for so many important reasons.

Unfortunately, the masses these days live in an artificial fantasy world, and falling back on social media interaction may cause people to phase you out. Being prepared for that is advised. For example, people may notice you not leaving “Happy Birthday” messages, commenting, sharing or liking posts and people may interpret that as you not supporting them. Consequently, you may be judged and demoted in many circles. Many people are so badly socially engineered and too caught up in the routine of daily posting on social media that they don’t even realize that that type of support is actually lazy and not even real. There are many other ways in which we can support one another. People are slowly losing touch of what real relationships and real interaction is. For example, I support fellow content creators and friends all the time, by directly sharing their content to other friends and family and I promote them in ways not restricted to social media. However, what people don’t see these days, doesn’t exist to them. People have almost lost the ability to understand that social media isn’t real life and we devote way too much time and energy fussing about it. So if people don’t see the likes, comments or shares coming from you, lost in a perspective they will phase you out judging you incorrectly. Just let it be.

And if you are a content creator yourself sharing someone else’s content because you believe in the person’s work and want to share it with others, then do that selflessly with the prime objective of carrying the message in mind. Do not do so expecting some sort of reciprocation. If so, that may be proof positive that social media is not just being used by you, it’s controlling you. If you are a content creator posting about specific issues or topics, always remember it’s not supposed to be about you anyway.

We really never know peoples reasons for showing us support or not showing us support on social media. Some people may be showing you support simply because you’re saying what they want to say for them. Others may not be showing you interaction and support not necessarily because they’re hating, but because they might be very bashful or busy. However, if you see people very active on social media posting and commenting all the time, but never on your posts, then yes its safe to assume they don’t support you. If that’s not the case, then never make baseless assumptions. At any rate, letting social media get under your skin or become too important in your day to day life is not a good idea.

We live in a matrix and there are many traps all around us to keep us on a very spiritually low vibration. We are kept from knowing who and what we really are and from untapping our true potential. The traps are dietary, environmental and psychological via TV and social media. In order to be spiritually well-balanced to the best of our ability we need to avoid toxic low vibrational foods and beverages. And we absolutely need to avoid poison for our minds. Lingering on social media a bit too long will change us if we’re not careful.

Some people don’t even realize they are being steered off course toward divisions and societal chaos. People are often listening to the wrong people because skilled demagogues know how to manipulate the times. These demagogues or groups know how to speak to our frustrations and exploit them. People are getting angrier, too swept away by movements and groups and are getting cliquish. Groups are breaking off into subgroups. People are becoming too emotional and are falling deeper into negative energy and consequently, spiritual oblivion.

I say this not to dissuade people from social media activism or contending with the many things wrong with our world. We need people on the front lines. I say this to remind people that social media alone is not true activism. It’s a tool, and a useful one, but not the end all be all. Sure, it helps raise awareness on so many things—but we need to come up for air sometimes.

It’s important to understand that the world has many problems, but spiritually lost, unhealthy and unbalanced people are not focused enough to find the solutions. They will inadvertently and unwittingly become a part of the many problems amiss.  And as people point judgmental fingers at so many people and groups becoming more irrational, narcissistic, overzealous, emotional and cliquish, thinking in absolutes, few people realize the very same thing could be happening to them with their group or ideology. Because of this social media age, very few people are looking inward seeing they are often just like what they criticize.

From sun up to sun down people are glued to their phones, laptops and devices. In all seriousness, one of the first things people do when they wake up is grab their phones. And some of the last things they do before sleeping is the same. That’s a lot of volunteered energy. What some people may not realize is that a lot of these apps and devices are strategically designed to be addictive and harness our energy. It’s time people adjust themselves for the times and regain that energy.

In these strange and tumultuous times its easy to get caught in the institutions of the day. However, it’s important to remember there’s a paradigm shift on its way, and many of us are here for a reason. Finding that reason is our mission in life while living life to the fullest as the best version of ourselves. Be careful not to live too much of that life giving energy away staring at a screen.
